About
Rishikesh |
|
The Indian sub-continent
perhaps has the largest network of rivers in the world.
The northern rivers with their origins in the lofty
Himalayas provide an exciting adventure for the white
water enthusiasts. These rivers rafting, surge, whirl,
froth and crash over and around boulders, as though
rushing to get to the freedom of the great plains,
rejoicing in their escape from captivity of the mountains.
The upper portions in the Himalayas are a white water
rafting sportsmen's paradise. They are excellent for
river rafting. |

About
Manali |
|
One day, Varvasvata,
the seventh incarnation Manu found a tiny fish in
his bathing water. The fish told him to look after
with devotion for one day it would do him a great
service. The seventh Manu cared for the fish till
the day it grew so huge that he released it into the
sea. Before departing, the fish warned Manu of an
impending deluge when the entire world would be submerged
and bade him to build a sea-worthy ark. When the flood
came, Varvasvata and seven sages were towed to safety
by Matsya, the fish -which is regarded as first avatar
of Lord Vishnu. As the water subsided the seventh
Manu's ark came to the rest on a hill side and the
place was named Manali (2050 m) after him.
As the art slowly dried, here arose a place of
breath taking natural beauty which was only appropriate
at Manali that life began again. Today this legendary
cradle of all human kind is a prime holiday destination.
There are high mountains surrounded by silent snows
and deep boulder strew gorges. There are thick forests
full of cool breezes and bird songs. There are fields
of wild flowers, small picturesque hamlets and fruit
laden orchards.

About
Shimla |
|
A quaint little
hill train chugs up into the Shivalik foothills, over
dramatic loops and high arched bridges to the hill
resort of Shimla, the capital of the mountain state
of Himachal Pradesh.
Shimla was one a string of hill stations
that the British established to escape from the scorching
heat of the plains. The 12-kms, crescent shaped ridge
on which it is located was first occupied by the British
troops, in the early part of the 19th century, during
the Anglo-Gurkha War. The little village of Shymala,
a retreat for British officers, soon grew to become
the glamorous summer capital of the British, in India.
Shimla's salubrious climate, easy
accessibility and numerous attractions have made it
one of the most popular hill stations in northern
India. The splendid views of the snow clad ranges
of the Himalayas, fine walks through oak and flowering
rhododenron, enchanting resorts within easy reach,
golf at naldehra and skiing at kufri and narkanda
make shimla an attractive destination throughout the
year.

About
Nainital |
|
A small town in
the hills of Kumaon, Nainital is a lovely hill station
surrounded by mountains on three sides. Once this
area had many lakes and it was called the City of
60 lakes or 'Chakta'. Most of the lakes in the region
have disappeared and whatever remains is just a glimpse
of what they might have been in the past. Today the
life of Nainital revolves around the lake of Naini.
But there are few other lakes around Nainital which
are equally beautiful and attractive as the Naini
lake. |
